February 8, 1972...Bruce Gamble Wins Game, Despite Heart Attack

On this date in 1972, the Flyers defeated the Canucks in Vancouver, 3-1. In the game, Flyers goaltender Bruce Gamble suffers what later was diagnosed as a heart attack in the first period. He continued to play, stopping 30 of 31 shots faced to record the 3-1 win.

The 1971-72 season would be his final season of hockey. Gamble retired with a 10-14-4 record and 3.09 goals-against average in 35 games over two seasons with the Flyers (1970-71 and 1971-72).
