On this date in 1984, Buffalo Sabres defenseman Phil Housley scored a goal at 4:09 of overtime to give the Sabres a 5-4 win over the Flyers at the Spectrum.
The loss was the Flyers' first regular season overtime defeat. The Flyers had won their first three overtime games (regular season overtime was instituted for the 1983-84 season).
In the game, Bill Barber and Dave Poulin each scored their 20th Dave Poulin
goal of the season. For Barber, it was the 12th consecutive
season that he had reached the 20-goal mark. For Poulin, he became just the eight rookie in team history to score 20 goals in a season.
