They Said it... Another Flyers-Penguins Classic

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers and Penguins produced another classic Tuesday night at the Wells Fargo Center. Below are post-game reactions of the back and forth contest with four fights and 93 penalty minutes that ended in OT…

FROM THE FLYERS…

Claude Giroux
“It was a pretty crazy game. Everyone was involved and playing as a team. That what we were looking and it doesn’t get any better than this.”

Wayne Simmonds
“Yeah it’s pretty cool to see that. He’s one of the top scorers in the league and he gets pretty angry. He’s throwing upper cuts from hell. It was pretty impressive. I think Raffy [Michael Raffl] did a great job. Everyone put their bodies on the line and it paid off tonight.”

Jakub Voracek
“It’s somewhat of a different game. I’m sure it’s emotional for the Penguins as well. Sometimes you have a team where they don’t fight or they don’t hit as much as them and sometimes you just have to find a different way to win the game. I don’t know why it’s like that against the Penguins every time but obviously we won the game so it’s good.”

Q: You were like a broad street bully tonight
“I saw Hammer [Dave] Schultz before the game so I wanted to show him that I got something.”

Pierre-Edouard Bellemare
“I think it was a great game. Everybody just fight for each other, literally. It was awesome to see the fans there. They were loving it. I think we just have to get those four days and come back to this kind of game.”

Chris Vandevelde
“Yeah, I think that is a sign we are growing. Yeah we were outplayed a little bit in the first but you know we stuck with it and had a strong second and third and won the game in overtime.”

Craig Berube (head coach)
“That’s Pittsburgh. They bring it out. They were emotional. They were into it. I think it’s a physical game and it’s great to see. I think this team really likes each other and it showed tonight where they are sticking up for each other and doing what they got to do on the ice.”

FROM THE PENGUINS…

Mike Johnston (head coach)
“That was a hard fought battle tonight, and we want a response from our team in the battle area… I thought our defense, they battled extremely hard. Both benches were at times shorthanded, and you really had to dig in… and I thought we responded that way as far as scoring chances, the power play had to decide it.”
