As the preseason comes to a close and the Flyers prepare to make their final roster for opening night on Oct. 6 at Boston, here are a few notes to wrap up the club’s 2011 Training Camp.
The Flyers finished the preseason with a 4-2-1 record and outscored their competition by a 20-15 count.
In the midst of their preseason slate, the Flyers rattled off three consecutive victories. Two of the team’s three losses came by just one goal.
|The trio of Giroux, Jagr & Briere could combine to be one of the most effective pp units in recent Flyers history. |
As of Oct. 2, both Jaromir Jagr
and Wayne Simmonds
are tied with four other players in the NHL with the most goals in the preseason each tallying four times.
Jagr also took eight shots on net in the preseason, connecting on four of them for a 50 percent shooting percentage.
Three of Jagr’s four goals came on the power play, while two of his four tallies were game-winning goals.Claude Giroux
ranks second in the NHL with seven assists having played just four games, while rookie Matt Read
is tied for third with five assists.
Giroux and Read led the team and tied for third in the NHL preseason with seven points.
Read and fellow rookie Sean Couturier
led the team with a plus-minus rating of plus-4. Each player appeared in six of seven preseason games.
Although sidelined for the second-half of training camp, James van Riemsdyk
had been on a roll. In his three preseason outings he posted three goals and an assist to go along with a plus-3 rating. JVR also put just four shots at the net to own a 75 percent shooting rate.
Through 151 minutes of play, goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky
has posted a 0.40 goals-against average and .984 save percentage.
After coming back from off-season surgery and questions as to whether he would be ready to open the season with the Flyers, captain Chris Pronger
returned to game action as the Flyers defeated the Devils by a 2-1 score last Thursday, earning an assist in the contest.
The Flyers power play produced eight goals during the preseason and worked at a 25 percent rate, going 8-for-32.
The Flyers PK unit was equally effective, allowing just three goals on 33 attempts to kill off 91 percent of the opponent’s man-advantage time, and even killing off all 11 opportunities in the third period.
