If you ask Claude Giroux the best thing that happened in Buffalo on Wednesday was the Flyers fighting back from a 3-0 deficit. It was that the Flyers have now won three straight games and it’s simply that they focused, battled and won tonight’s game in Buffalo, N.Y. after getting behind the eight ball.

No mention of what his overtime game-winning-goal did to his status among all players in the NHL. Heck, no mention that it was HE who scored the game-winner.

Perhaps that’s exactly why he posted a four-point night and why he is now all alone as the National Hockey League’s leader in points.

Yup, Claude Giroux stands alone at the top with 36 points through his 26 games so far this year. He is one point ahead of Toronto Phil’s Kessel and even has two games in hand on Kessel and one game on Vancouver’s Daniel Sedin, who has 33 points.

With 16 goals, Giroux is also tied for third in the goal-scoring department, one behind Kessel and Chicago’s Jonathan Toews.

Wednesday’s game-winner was his fifth of the season which ties for first in the NHL with Detroit’s Johan Franzen and his two game-winners in overtime are also tied for the NHL lead.

In the assist department, Giroux is just two helpers behind the NHL lead and his 20 assists are tied for sixth in the NHL.

Giroux now has seven points (3G-4A) in the Flyers last three games, including a three-game goal-scoring streak in which all three goals have been game-winners.

Only once this season has Giroux gone two straight games without recording a point.

On two occasions he has recorded four-point nights, five times he has recorded three points or more in a game and nine of his 25 games he has recorded two or more points.

There have been seven games in which Claude Giroux has not recorded a point.

You want to talk about Hart Trophy Consideration? Perhaps look no further than this. The Flyers own a record of 1-4-2 when Giroux does not record a point and 15-3-1 when Giroux does find the score sheet.
