The very first game day has arrived in Philadelphia and it's the rookies who will be on display at the Wells Fargo Center as they take on the New York Islanders rookies.

Among the roster, 12 players will be participating in a rookie game for the first time with the Flyers, including five first round draft picks (Patrick, Morin, Sanheim, Rubtsov & Frost).

In total, the game will feature 16 players selected by the Flyers in the NHL Draft, including five players taken in the 2017 Draft this past June (Patrick, Frost, Ratcliffe, Strome & Sushko).

The two goaltenders at rookie camp, Alex Lyon and Carter Hart, will once again split duties. The pair combined for a shut out in last year's rookie game against the Islanders in Long Island.

LINES, NOTES & QUOTES FROM THE MORNING SKATE

* Older prospects called to lead… The Flyers will be looking tonight for the more experienced players in the lineup, such as Samuel Morin and Travis Sanheim to assert themselves as team leaders in the Rookie Game, noting that the expectations for such players are a bit more elevated. However, there is also an emphasis on the younger players gaining experience and showing what they can do. As such, more experienced Rookie Camp participants such as Mike Vecchione, Radel Fazleev and Reece Willcox will not dress for the Rookie Game. Second-year pro Nicolas-Aube Kubel is under the weather and is also out of the lineup.

* Rubtsov deadly one-on-one… After line rushes and special teams, there was a shootout. Rubtsov scored several times on slick moves before Carter Hart denied him on his last few attempts.

* The "top four" of the Flyers' blueline is stacked with formidable pairings: Samuel Morin with Mark Friedman and Travis Sanheim with Philippe Myers.

Below are some line rushes from the skate, which fans could see in action tonight:

The forward rushes:

82 Connor Bunnaman - 64 Nolan Patrick - 90 Maksim Sushko

54 Oskar Lindblom - 63 German Rubtsov - 63 Pascal Laberge

71 Isaac Ratcliffe - 68 Morgan Frost- 78 Matthew Strome / 86 Anthony Salinitri

81 Carsen Twarynski - 46 Mikhail Vorobyev - 90 Ivan Kosorenkov

"I'm confident that my body's ready and that I'm feeling good so I'm just going to get my first couple shifts and get my feet under me and go from there," said Patrick, who will make his first appearance in a Flyers sweater after being taken second overall in the Draft.

Defensive pairings:

50 Sam Morin - 59 Mark Friedman

57 Travis Sanheim - 61 Philippe Myers

85 James de Haas - 77 Frank Hora

Mark Friedman is at his first training camp and will play his first game of any kind in a Flyer sweater since turning pro after a three-year career at Bowling Green.

"I just did a game-day preparation. Last night I got a good meal and drink a lot of water and today I just go back to my old game day routine, so I feel very comfortable right now and I'm really excited," said Friedman.

In net:

Alex Lyon was first off the ice, indicating that he's the starter. Carter Hart will split duties with him 50/50.

"I think it's going to be extremely intense," said Alex Lyon, who will get the start in net tonight. "I find that these games, the adrenaline is pumping a little bit more especially with the young guys who are maybe trying to make a first impression or guys who played in Lehigh last year and are trying to put their best foot forward and show how much they've improved over the summer."
