RESULTS: Read's Tic-Tac-Toe goal advances

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

RESULTS: This one wasn't close from the beginning. With over 1,200 votes cast, Matt Read's finish on a tic-tac-toe play won out over Jay Rosehill's spin-o-rama goal in the fan vote of the Best Goal category.

The Tic-Tac-Toe goal earned over 800 votes to advance to the next round of the Flyers Play of the Year Tournament where it will face off against either Claude Giroux or Sean Couturier's goal. (see bracket above)

With time winding down in the second period of the Flyers-Penguins game on Mar. 15, Sean Couturier pokes the puck free from the Pens defense to create a 3-on-1. Couturier drops it to Claude Giroux, who fires it back to Couturier, who immediately hits Matt Read with a cross-ice pass for an open net tally against Marc-Andre Fleury.

The goal gave the Flyers a 4-0 leading heading into the third period, which would be enough to win the game and lead to an eventual weekend sweep of the Penguins with a 4-3 win at Pittsburgh on Mar. 16.

Let's check out this week's winning highlight one more time...
