The polls have closed on this week’s second quarterfinal matchup and the fans have voted Claude Giroux’s winner off a great play from Shayne Gostisbehere in overtime to advance in the 2015-16 Highlight of the Year tournament. The ‘Ghost to Giroux’ highlight earned a unanimous vote among the fans over Gudas’ four point night.
The winning highlight unfolded with a last second rush down the ice during the 3 on 3 overtime session. Entering the offensive zone, Giroux flung a pass in between the circles which deflected in the air. Gostisbehere lept up, knocked the puck down with his hand, then quickly shoveled it with his stick to Giroux who found himself all alone and fired a shot past Ondrej Pavelec for the winner.
The results mean that the top half of the semifinal bracket is complete and two overtime winners will now go head-to-head. Following next week’s quarterfinal vote of the bottom portion of the bracket, Gostisbehere’s overtime winner vs. Toronto faces off against Gostisbehere’s pass and Giroux’s OT game-winner vs. Winnipeg.
