The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 6-4, 208-lb defenseman Reece Willcox to an entry-level contract that begins with the 2016-17 season, according to general manager Ron Hextall. Willcox will report to the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on an amateur tryout contract for the remainder of the 2015-16 season.
Willcox, who turned 22 yesterday (3/20/1994), was a fifth-round selection (141st overall) of the Flyers in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft. He recently concluded his senior season at Cornell University, which came to an end with a three-game loss to Quinnipiac in the quarterfinals of the ECAC tournament. Willcox served as one of the team’s captains his senior year while recording two goals and 11 assists for 13 points in 33 games.
A native of Surrey, British Columbia, Willcox recorded five goals and 24 assists for 29 points in 120 career games at Cornell, along with 30 PIM. He will join former Cornell teammate Cole Bardreau with the Phantoms, who finished his career at the school last season.
