by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
UPDATED: With nearly 4,000 votes cast by Flyers fans, we have a winner for the first showdown in the 'Play of the Year' tournament.

Simmonds' hit on Anton Volchenkov on March 13 garnered over 2,000 votes by Flyers fans to edge Brayden Schenn's hit on Montreal defenseman PK Subban.

With the win, Simmonds could possibly face off against himself in the next round.

The other portion of the bracket is a match-up to determine the 'Best Fight'. Zac Rinaldo's fight with Tampa Bay's BJ Crombeen will go against Simmonds scrap with Buffalo's Mike Weber. That vote will take place on June 17.

Beginning Monday, the tournament moves to the 'Best Saves' section, where fans decide which was Steve Mason's best save as a Flyer.

Polls open on Monday, but for now here's another look at Simmonds checkin on Devils' Volchenkov…

MAY 20: Throughout the Summer of 2013, will be conducting a bracket-style Tournament in which YOU, the Fan, can cast your vote and choose who keeps advancing until the year's best Flyers highlight is unveiled.
