Philadelphia Sports Teams Dancers and Entertainers to Hit Home Run with Summer Softball Showdown at FDR Park

Members of six Philadelphia sports teams’ dancers and entertainers will go to bat for area charities in the second annual Summer Softball Showdown at FDR Park on Saturday, July 19 at 12 p.m. The Summer Softball Showdown is a round-robin tournament featuring Flyers Ice Girls, Sixers Dancers, Phillies Ball Girls, Angels Dance Team (Wings), Soulmates, and KiXX Dance Team. Local media members will also compete on various teams. Admission for the event is free.


The Summer Softball Showdown also features an auction and interactive games, with all proceeds benefiting area charities through the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation, Phillies Charities, and the Philadelphia Soul Charitable Foundation.

Fans of all ages can stop by the ballpark throughout the afternoon for great giveaways, refreshments, games and prizes. Fans will also have the opportunity to purchase and bid on autographed sports memorabilia. Auction items include an autographed Jon Bon Jovi guitar, 2008-09 game tickets, an autographed Randy Jones hockey stick, a Chase Utley signed limited edition lithograph, a team signed Phantoms jersey, a Thaddeus Young jersey, and more!

Media members scheduled to participate in the charity softball tournament include Keith Russell and Jamie Apody from 6 ABC; Jennaphr Frederick and John Bolaris from FOX 29; Don Bell and Ukee Washington from CBS3; Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, Vince DeMentri, and Dave Warren from NBC 10; Marshal Harris from Comcast SportsNet; Marissa Magnatta and Matt Cord from WMMR; Ray Koob from WMGK; Brian Startare from WIP; and Tommy Jordan from WPST.

The first round match-ups include Flyers Ice Girls vs. Angels Dance Team, Sixers Dancers vs. Soulmates, and Phillies Ball Girls vs. KiXX Dance Team. Each team will have a “Celebrity Coach” consisting of a current or former player or media member.

The event will be emceed by WMMR’s Matt Cord. Various members of the teams, along with mascots, will perform routines between games.
