FLYERS RECALL TAYLOR LEIER
The Flyers have recalled left wing Taylor Leier from their AHL affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms, according to general manager Ron Hextall today.
Leier will be available for tonight's game against the Buffalo Sabres, wearing #58.
The 22-year-old Leier has an assist in three games for the Phantoms this season, his third with the organization since turning pro after he was drafted in 2012. He finished second on the team in goals (20) and points (49) in 71 games last season, while also making his NHL debut with the Flyers on Nov. 14 at Carolina.
He played a total of six games for the Flyers, averaging 7:43 of ice time, before returning to Lehigh Valley in late November.
Prior to turning pro, Leier played three seasons for the Portland Winterhawks of the Western Hockey League, recording 77 goals and 101 assists for 178 points in 198 games. He helped Portland reach the WHL finals in each of the three seasons, winning the league title in 2013. He captained the Winterhawks in the 2013-14 season and represented Team Canada at the 2014 World Junior Championships.
A native of Saskatoon, Leier was selected by the Flyers in the fourth round (117th overall) of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.
In other news to come out of the handful of players to take a brief morning skate at the Skate Zone in Voorhees, is that defenseman Radko Gudas will make his season debut after serving his six-game suspension handed down by the NHL's Department of Player Safety during the preseason.
Flyers head coach Dave Hakstol confirmed that Gudas will be in the lineup, but did not comment on which player would come out.
"He's been away from the game for a couple of weeks so he just has to bring a simple presence," added Hakstol. "He brings value in good two-way play. He brings a physical presence and a good, heavy body back there. The biggest thing we're looking for from him is just good, solid, clean two-way play in terms of defending and moving pucks out of our zone."
Gudas appeared in three preseason games for the Flyers, going scoreless, recording four shots on goal and recording 26 penalty minutes.
