– The 2007 DHI Cup All-Star Senior Showcase dropped the puck on October 30 with a doubleheader at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone. More than 25 college, junior and professional scouts (including Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren) were perched in the media room above the rink, hoping to discover their program’s next impact player.
The hundreds of fans in attendance were treated to two high-energy games, and the physical play more closely resembled a playoff game than an all-star game. Flyers center and New Jersey high school alumnus Jim Dowd was on hand to drop the first puck and lend his support to the event.
The DHI Cup is a joint venture between the Flyers and Keith Primeau’s Durham Hockey Institute, and was created as a way to showcase the top 80 senior scholastic hockey players from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware. The DHI Cup Final is set for Monday, November 12 at the Wachovia Center, prior to the Flyers game against the NY Islanders. Admission is free with a ticket to the Flyers game, and includes a Question and Answer session with Keith Primeau.
