NHL, NHLPA to meet Saturday

by Dan Rosen / Philadelphia Flyers

Representatives from the National Hockey League and National Hockey League Players' Association will meet face-to-face Saturday for the first time since talks toward a new Collective Bargaining Agreement broke off Oct. 18.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly is scheduled to meet with NHLPA Special Counsel Steve Fehr at an undisclosed location.

"Just trying to move the process forward," Daly told in an email. "Maybe generate some more candid discussion on the issues that are separating us."

No future bargaining sessions are scheduled. The two sides last met in Toronto more than two weeks ago.

The NHL has already cancelled the 2012-13 regular season through Nov. 30.

The NHL on Friday cancelled the 2013 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic, scheduled for Jan. 1 at Michigan Stadium between the Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs.

The Winter Classic announcement makes a total of 326 games that have been cancelled due to the lack of a CBA.

The League also announced the SiriusXM Hockeytown Winter Festival, scheduled for Dec. 16 through Dec. 31 at Comerica Park in Detroit, was cancelled.

In addition, the League said the next Winter Classic will take place at Michigan Stadium between the Red Wings and Maple Leafs.
