National Broadcast Schedule Released for 2016-17 Season

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers will be featured in a national broadcast 20 times for the upcoming season as the National Hockey League and NBC released the national television schedule today for the 2016-17 NHL season.

The Flyers are also currently scheduled to play in front of a national audience three times on NBC, including the NHL Thanksgiving Showdown matchup vs. the New York Rangers on Friday, Nov. 25, at 1 p.m., and the NHL Stadium Series matchup vs. Penguins on Saturday, Feb. 25 at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh at 8 p.m.

Six of the 20 Flyers games will be televised on NBCSN as Wednesday Night Rivalry, which will return for a fourth season and will feature some of the biggest rivalries in the NHL. The network will air exclusive coverage on Wednesday nights for 24 weeks, with games usually starting at 8 p.m.

Last year’s Wednesday Night Rivalry coverage averaged 608,000 viewers, and WNR coverage produced three of the 10 most-watched NHL regular-season games in network history. NBCSN’s 10 most-watched games in 2015-16 were either Wednesday Night Rivalry or Sunday Night Hockey games.

The Flyers will play 10 Metropolitan Division games on national television, including all four contests against the New York Rangers and three of their four games against the Penguins. The Flyers will play two nationally broadcast games against last year’s playoff opponent, the Washington Capitals, while the other divisional game will come against the New York Islanders.

The Flyers will also play five times against a Western Conference opponent as part of the NBCSN lineup, including both of their games against the St. Louis Blues and Colorado Avalanche, while their first game of the season to be featured in a national broadcast will come against the Blackhawks at Chicago on Tuesday, Oct. 18.
