Myers, Huskies to face Red Deer in Memorial Cup Semifinals

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The round robin portion of the Memorial Cup Tournament is over and Flyers prospect Philippe Myers and the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies will face off against the host city of Red Deer in the semifinals.

Red Deer eliminated Ivan Provorov and the Brandon Wheat Kings with a 2-1 overtime victory on Wednesday. Brandon led 1-0 after two periods, but the Rebels got a goal with just over five minutes left in regulation to force the first overtime of the tournament. The extra session didn’t last long as the winning goal was scored 3:50 into overtime.

Provorov recorded four shots in the loss and ends his Memorial Cup tournament with two assists and eight shots on goal in the three contests.

Rouyn-Noranda, who opened the tournament with a 5-3 win, has lost two straight heading into the semifinals against Red Deer. It is a rematch of their 5-2 loss to the Rebels on Sunday when the two teams faced off in the round robin.

Myers has two points (1g-1a), with seven shots on goal and a plus-1 rating through the Huskies first three games. His lone goal was the game-winning goal coming on the power play in their only victory of the tournament.

The semifinal game will take place on Friday, May 27 at 8 p.m. ET and will be shown on the NHL Network.

The winner of Rouyn-Noranda and Red Deer will face off against the OHL Champion London Knights, who have dominated the tournament, going a perfect 3-0-0 and outscoring the competition, 20 to 5.
