At the Flyers unofficial on-ice workout, more players arrived Wednesday with the start of training camp getting closer and closer.
On the ice for the first time were Jake Voracek, Bruno Gervais, Luke Schenn and Nick Grossmann.
The players practiced for about an hour and participated in an inter-squad scrimmage.
Ruslan Fedotenko arrived at the rink just after the practice ended. He will skate on Thursday.
The only veteran players who have yet to arrive for the presumed start of training camp are Wayne Simmonds and Tom Sestito, who is recovering from a bout with the mumps.
A couple corrections from my "Who's Coming to Training Camp" blog from yesterday:
Erik Gustafsson will not rehab with the Flyers, but instead will rehab in Glens Falls with the Phantoms. He isn't expected to be back before the start of the regular season from his foot injury.
Scott Munroe would not be the injury replacement goalie as he is on a one-way, AHL-only contract. If either Ilya Bryzgalov or Michael Leighton were to get injured, the Flyers only choices to fill in at the present moment are Cal Heeter and Niko Hovinen.
Although, I got the sense from talking to some people in the organization that if there were a significant injury that they would look to bring another veteran goalie in to the team.
One player that I got a lot of questions about when I posted the predicted training camp roster was Matt Walker, who I left off the list.
I'm told Walker is still dealing with a significant back injury and probably won't be cleared by doctors to practice. It likely means that Walker, in the last year of his contract, will start the season on the long-term injury list.
Word is that training camp won't actually begin until Monday due to the ratification of the new CBA not expected until Saturday.
Players will arrive on Sunday for physicals and the first practice will be Monday morning. As a result, don't expect the schedule to be released until Saturday as well.
I did some video interviews with the new arrivals today. Here are the links:
Jake Voracek, Bruno Gervais, Ruslan Fedotenko
I also did one with Luke Schenn, but wrote a story about him as well.
