McCrossin Updates Injured Flyers

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
Flyers Athletic Trainer and Strength and Conditioning Coach Jim McCrossin updated several of the team's injuries prior to the Flyers-NY Rangers game at the Wachovia Center on Tuesday night. Below are McCrossin's comments.

Jim McCrossin: "Freddy Meyer had some back spasms today. He had a bad back in college and has a slightly bulging disc. He went in and saw our doctor and the doctor recommended [Meyer] get a nerve root injection, which he did, and he had immediate relief. He won't play today, but he's very likely for tomorrow.

"Sami Kapanen participated in the morning skate today and felt good when we left. As of this morning, he's going to be playing tonight."

"[Joni] Pitkanen was cleared.

"Both Geoff Sanderson and Mike Richards had surgery today performed by Dr. Bill Meyers at Hahnemann University. I spoke with Dr. Meyers and spoke to Mike Richards a few times and Richie is feeling really good. Sandy was still asleep. He was after Richie, but Dr. Myers said the repairs went very well. Hopefully, both will be back within three to six weeks.

"The procedure lasted approximately 25 minutes. There was a small incision, maybe the size of two of the digits of your small finger."
