Kia Opening Night to Feature New In-Game Experiences, Community Initatives, & More

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
Hockey is officially back in Philadelphia as the Flyers host the Florida Panthers this Monday, October 12 at 7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center for KIA Opening Night. In addition to two giveaways—a KIA #PlayBoldly Flyers rally towel and a 2015-16 Toyota schedule magnet—fans attending the home opener will also enjoy a new, enhanced in-game experience.

“Nothing beats the electric atmosphere of Flyers opening night at the Wells Fargo Center,” says Shawn Tilger, chief operating officer of business operations for the Flyers. “We invite fans to be a part of the action. There are plenty of good seats at every price range available now for opening night and for every home game this season.” Tickets start at $52 and are available HERE or by calling 215-218-PUCK.

The Flyers newly-updated in-arena experience includes new movable light structures, enhanced in-game statistics, and more.  Exclusively for opening night, the team has partnered with Quebec-based event design company TKNL to craft a four-minute, sensory-provoking opening show that features on-ice 3D projection, lasers, and special effects. Additionally, Flyers In-Arena Host Shawny Hill will return for his sixth season behind the mic and will be joined by new co-host Alexandra Kraemer. The season will also see an upgraded promotional staff, featuring the 17-member Flyers Ice Girls.

A number of Flyers community outreach initiatives will also be featured at games this season. Flyers Captain Claude Giroux will continue to host families in need and community organizations in his “Giroux’s Crew” suite, and Jakub Voracek will continue to host organizations in his “Voracek’s Vault” suite on select game nights. New this year, Wayne Simmonds will begin hosting military representatives—both veterans’ groups as well as active military—in his new “Wayne’s Warriors” suite on select game nights.

Voracek is also adding a second game-based community program, “A Czech for Hearts,” in partnership with Simon’s Fund, a Philadelphia-based organization dedicated to raising awareness about the conditions that lead to sudden cardiac arrest and death in young athletes and children. “A Czech for Hearts” supports the idea that while a hockey game can be decided in sudden death, a child’s life should never be. For every Flyers victory decided in the five-minute overtime period, Voracek will donate $1,000 to Simon’s Fund. For more information about Simon’s Fund, visit SimonsFund.org.

Before the game on Monday, fans can follow the Flyers at 12 p.m. as they celebrate the home opener in style—with a multi-vehicle caravan featuring military Humvees, a Philadelphia Fire Department fire truck, a Sugarhouse Casino double decker bus, and the Dunkin’ Donuts Sampling Truck. The caravan will wind its way from the Wells Fargo Complex up Broad St. and throughout Center City. Follow the Flyers on Twitter (@NHLFlyers) for caravan updates.
