Junior Flyers March into the Playoffs

The Philadelphia Flyers Junior Hockey Team has secured home ice advantage for the first round of the U.S. Premier Hockey League (USPHL) playoffs and will open a best-of-three post-season series against the Islanders Hockey Club at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ, on Friday, February 28 at 7 p.m.

Fans are invited to watch National Hockey League draft eligible prospects as they compete for the first league title in USPHL history. To celebrate this milestone at the first home playoff game, Philadelphia Flyers alumnus Bob “The Hound” Kelly will drop the ceremonial first puck. The first 350 fans in attendance will receive Flyers rally towels. Fans can purchase tickets from the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone box office and online at for just $5.

The Flyers held a 5-1 record against the Islanders this season that has fueled a regional rivalry between the teams. The second guaranteed game in this series will be played on Saturday, March 1 at 5 p.m. at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone.

The Flyers Junior Team finished out the regular season with a record of 28-17-1 and finished fourth in the USPHL standings. The first season has been an eventful one from thrilling shootouts on Wells Fargo Center ice, frenetic overtime wins, and enthusiastic support from the local community generating a buzz for the region’s most competitive junior hockey team.

Captain Ryan Badger finished the regular season ranked third in the league in scoring with 59 points and third in the league in assists with 41. Forward Trevor Gooch is tied for 5th in the league in goals with 21. This season also saw three members of the team commit to Division I programs, with more expected to commit later this year. Goaltender Joe Young committed to Union College, where current Flyers prospect defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere is a top player and defenseman Christian Meike committed to the University of Michigan for the 2015-2016 Season. Forward Ryan Ferrill is headed to the College of the Holy Cross next season.
