(Philadelphia, PA, December 10) - Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren on Sunday updated the status of injured forwards Geoff Sanderson and Mike Richards. Both left the Flyers game against Washington on Saturday in the middle of the game.
Holmgren: "There's no update on Geoff Sanderson, although it does look like it's going to require surgery. Again, we won't really know until we get the results on the MRI. Mike Richards is scheduled to see the doctor [Monday] at 12:30 p.m. and we have him pretty much penciled in for surgery on Tuesday to repair his stomach injury. With the surgery, we're looking at four weeks out of the lineup for both players is Geoff has to go down that same path.
What is the injury? "It's a sports hernia, where they go in and actually put mesh in there and that's the way they repair these injuries. We've had a few of them here in the past few years and the rehabilitation time is three to four weeks."
Will the Flyers bring anyone up to add to the roster? "We'll have to do something Monday morning. We haven't really decided yet. We'll meet John [Stevens] and the coaches Monday morning early and we'll come up with a game plan."
