Holmgren Updates Status of Niittymaki

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
(Tampa Bay, FL, December 28) – Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren gave the following update on goaltender Antero Niittymaki on Thursday morning at the St. Pete Times Forum prior to the team's optional skate. Niittymaki left Wednesday night's 3-1 loss in Florida after the second period with a slight left hip strain.

Paul Holmgren: "Today we sent right wing Darren Reid back to the Phantoms and recalled goaltender Scott Munroe. Goaltender Antero Niittymaki suffered what seems to be a minor hip related injury. Right now, he's scheduled to go see the doctor in Nashville tomorrow sometime for a checkup and quite possibly the same [cortisone] injection that he had prior to the start of the season. We're hoping that will carry him on through the remainder of the season.

"He'll be here (in Tampa Bay) tonight and then he'll go with the team tonight to Raleigh. Then, he'll just fly from Raleigh tomorrow into Nashville."
