Highlight of the Year: Quarterfinal 4

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

Three highlights are off to the semifinals (see updated bracket above) and it’s up to you to decide the fourth for the 2015 Flyers Highlight of the Year.

The final highlights looking to advance include a brilliant shootout move from Wayne Simmonds against another highlight that has already won a fan’s vote this year - Michael Del Zotto’s top-shelf, shorthanded, game-winning goal against his former team.

HIGHLIGHT #1: Having lost their previous 10 shootouts, the Flyers played to a 1-1 tie at the end of 65 minutes against the Ottawa Senators on Jan. 6. Wayne Simmons scored the lone goal for the Flyers and had the game on his stick in the fifth round of the shootout.

In his first attempt of the season, Simmonds went in all alone on Craig Anderson and showed some fancy stick-handling skills to place it perfectly past the Sens’ netminder and give the Flyers their first shootout victory in over a calendar year..

HIGHLIGHT #2: Sean Couturier kicks off the second highlight when he crosses into the Rangers zone on a penalty kill. Holding onto the puck, he sends a no-look pass to a pinching Del Zotto, who chips one in up high and over Cam Talbot’s glove, just inside the far post to snap a 2-2 tie.

The goal would stand and Del Zotto would record nearly 25 minutes (24:45) of ice time, as well as fire seven shots on net, while blocking four shot attempts to help the Flyers snap a four-game losing streak against the Rangers.
