Hatcher Named Top Penalty Killer by The Hockey News

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

In its April 24 issue, The Hockey News has named Philadelphia Flyers defenseman Derian Hatcher the league’s top penalty-killer for the 2006-07 season.

Below is a transcript from the publication:

"Derian Hatcher endured and persevered through a tough year in Philadelphia, and that’s partly why he’s receiving the Guy Carbonneau Penalty-Killer of the Year Award.

"Many bad things happened to the Flyers this season, but their penalty-killing was quite respectable, finishing 10th in the league despite many nights of sub-par goaltending.

"Hatcher was a workhorse when his team was down a man or two. He averaged a league-leading 5:37 of ice time per game while shorthanded, and used his positioning and long reach much better to break up plays."
