Giroux Suspended for Game 5

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
A day after Game 4 of their Eastern Conference Semifinals against the Devils at New Jersey, the National Hockey League announced that Flyers center Claude Giroux had a hearing with the NHL's Department of Player Safety after receiving a two minute penalty for an illegal check to the head late in the second period.

Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren recently announced the following:

"Claude was given a 1-game suspension by the NHL for a hit on Dainius Zubrus during the 2nd period of last night’s game.”

Trailing in the series, three-games-to-one, the Flyers will be without Giroux for Game 5 at the Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday night. Giroux leads all players in the playoffs in scoring with 17 points and is tied for the lead with eight goals.

Game 5 will be the first Stanley Cup Playoff game missed by Giroux in his four-year NHL career. He has appeared in all 50 of the Flyers playoff games since the 2008-09 season, averaging over a point-per-game with 21 goals and 34 assists.
