The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have re-signed 6-2, 183-lb right wing Wayne Simmonds to a multi-year contract extension, according to General Manager Paul Holmgren.
“We are pleased to announce that we have agreed to a multi-year extension with Wayne Simmonds,” Holmgren said. “Wayne plays the game with courage and honor and we believe he will continue to be a very good winger for our organization.”
"I'm extremely happy to have this deal in place,” Simmonds said. “We're going to have a good team in Philly for a long time and I just wanted to be able to be a part of hopefully bringing a championship back to the Philly faithful."
Simmonds, who turns 24 on August 26 (8/26/88), was acquired by the Flyers from the Los Angeles Kings on June 23, 2011.
He set career highs in his first season with the Flyers in goals (28) and points (49), while also seeing more playing time (15:55 avg TOI) and taking more shots (197) than any other season in his four-year career.
A native of Scarborough, Ontario, Simmonds was selected by the Kings in the second round (61st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He has 67 goals and 75 assists for 142 points, along with 378 PIM, in 322 career NHL games.
