The Philadelphia Flyers have signed 6-2, 190-lb center Chris VandeVelde to a one-year contract and loaned LW Tye McGinn to their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. VandeVelde will be available for the Flyers’ game vs. Montreal tonight, wearing #76.
VandeVelde, 26 (3/15/1987), signed an American Hockey League contract with the Phantoms this past summer and has appeared in 23 games for the club this season, recording seven goals and six assists for 13 points.
He came to the Flyers organization after spending three seasons playing for the Edmonton Oilers organization, splitting his time between Edmonton and their AHL affiliate in Oklahoma City. He has appeared in 28 NHL games, recording a goal and two assists for three points.
He played 192 regular-season games over three seasons for Oklahoma City, posting 26 goals and 33 assists for 59 points while helping the Barons reach the AHL’s Western Conference Finals in two consecutive seasons. VandeVelde was selected by the Oilers in the fourth round (97th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.
