Defenseman inks multi-year contract extension

The Philadelphia Flyers announced today they have signed defenseman TJ Brennan to a multi-year contract extension, according to general manager Ron Hextall.

Brennan originally signed a multi-year deal with the Flyers on July 5, 2016 and has spent the last two seasons with the club's American Hockey League affiliate, the Lehigh Valley Phantoms.

VITALS: 6'1", 213 pounds


  • In his second year with the Phantoms, he leads the Phantoms defense in scoring with 39 points (12g-27a) in 48 games, which is also fourth among AHL defensemen, while his 12 goals are tied for second among d-men.
  • He appeared in one preseason game for the Flyers, recording a goal and seven shots in the their 3-2 loss to the Islanders on Sept. 20.
  • In 2016-17, he led the Phantoms in overall scoring with 60 points (21g-39a), which also tied for the lead among all AHL defensemen in scoring. 
  • Over the course of his AHL career, he has won the Eddie Shore Award on two occasions as the AHL's best defenseman (2013-14 & 2015-16) and currently ranks second all all-time among AHL defensemen with 136 goals, and has 418 points in 567 career AHL games.
  • He has been named to AHL First All-Star Team three times (13-14, 15-16 & 16-17) and the AHL's All-Star Classic in each of the last four seasons. 
  • Drafted in the second round (31st overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft by the Buffalo Sabres, he has appeared in 53 NHL games with the Sabres, Florida Panthers and Toronto Maple Leafs recording 13 points (5g-8a).
