by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren has just announced that the team has signed right wing Wayne Simmonds to a multi-year contract extension.

The 22-year-old from Scarborough, Ontario was acquired on June 23 along with forward Brayden Schenn and a 2nd round pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft from the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for center Michael Richards.

Simmonds recorded 14 goals and 16 assists for 30 points.  He has appeared in 240 games for the Kings over the past three seasons (2008-11), during which time he’s scored a total of 39 goals and 54 assists for 93 points while collecting 264 PIM.

Simmonds was selected by the Kings in the second round (61st overall) of the 2007 NHL Entry Draft.
