The Philadelphia Flyers announced today that they have signed 2016 first round pick, German Rubtsov, to an entry level contract, according to general manager Ron Hextall.
Rubtsov, 18, (6/27/98) was selected by the Flyers 22nd overall at the NHL Entry Draft on June 24 in Buffalo, NY.
He is currently playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League where he has recorded eight goals and 12 assists for 20 points in 14 games for the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.
A native of Chekhov, Russia, Rubtsov was one of just four 18-year-olds to play for the Russian National Team in the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championships. He appeared in five games, going scoreless, and won a bronze medal.
He began the 2016-17 season in Russia's Junior League with Vityazi Chekhov where he averaged a point per-game with eight goals and seven points in 15 contests. He also appeared in 15 games in the Kontinental Hockey League, Russia's top pro league.
