The Philadelphia Flyers are welcoming their fans "Back Where They Belong" with giveaways, free offers, a new in-game announcer, a high-tech on-ice debut and the opening of a newly expanded 8,000-sq. ft. food court during the much-anticipated opening of the 2005-06 season at the Wachovia Center on Wednesday, October 5, as the team hosts the New York Rangers at 7 p.m.
"Our fans have been tremendously loyal to Flyers hockey and we can't wait to welcome them back," said Flyers President Ron Ryan. "Opening night is going to be a very special night for Flyers fans. In addition to rolling out the orange carpet, we have an incredible game-night presentation with the newest and most advance technology, as well as a new in-game announcer and a series of giveaways for our fans during opening night."
The Flyers will convert the ice into a giant 200-ft by 85-ft. video screen as they introduce the entire 2005-06 roster with a high-tech display followed by an intense bone-crushing, high energy highlight video featuring Ac/Dc's "For Those About to Rock (We Salute You)." Prior to the puck drop, a military color guard group will accompany Lauren Hart as she sings the "Star Spangled Banner."
In welcoming back the fans, the Flyers will present all fans attending the home opener with a Flyers bandana, courtesy of OLN; the highly sought after Back Where We Belong T-shirt, courtesy of Verizon and PECO Energy; a Flyers 'thank you' card; and a mini Stanley Cup replica, courtesy of the National Hockey League.
All fans attending the Flyers home opener and all future events at the Wachovia Center can rejoice in the opening of the newly expanded food court, the Cingular Pavilion, featuring Chickie's & Pete's and Steve's Prince of Steaks. The Cingular Pavilion features delicious food, tabletop seating, and large High Definition LCD Screens for fans to view live game action. Flyers alumni and team broadcasters will make guest appearances at the Cingular Pavilion throughout the home opener, including Bernie Parent prior to the game and Bob Kelly during intermissions.
In addition to many of the Flyers players making their on-ice debut in the orange and black, the team will also unveil a new in-game announcer who will roam the Wachovia Center, as well as the 2005-06 Delta Dental Ice Team, who will welcome fans on the concourse prior to the game, as well as appear on the ice during stoppages of play.
Throughout the game, the Flyers will award lucky fans with tremendous prizes, including round-trip airfare for two courtesy of Southwest Airlines to a select destination, two Sharp Aquos flat-screen HD-LCD televisions, an eight-day, seven-night Celebration World Resort/Kissimmee Vacation to Florida which includes passes to Universal Orlando and SeaWorld Orlando and a three-day, two-night getaway cruise vacation to a select city around the United States or Bahamas.
In addition to the home opener, hockey will prominently be featured at the Wachovia Center the entire week as the Flyers will host the New Jersey Devils on Friday, October 7 at 7 p.m; followed by the opening night of the Philadelphia Phantoms as they raise their Calder Cup Championship banner and face the Binghamton Senators on Saturday, October 8 at 7 p.m. The Phantoms will then host the Albany River Rats at Wachovia Center the following afternoon on Sunday, October 9 at 5 p.m.
