The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have recalled 6'0", 205-pound forward Stefan Ruzicka from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to General Manager Bob Clarke. Ruzicka will be available to play in tonight's Flyers-NY Islanders game at the Wachovia Center. Ruzicka has been assigned uniform number #40.
Ruzicka, 20, has recorded nine goals and 13 assists for 22 points and 42 penalty minutes in 43 games for the Phantoms this season. He registered 37 goals and 33 assists for 70 points and 61 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games for the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League during the 2004-05 season. He was tied for second on the team in goals with 37.
In addition to playing for Owen Sound, Ruzicka was a member of the Slovakian National Team for the 2005 IIHF World Junior Championships, leading the team in scoring with six points (3G,3A) in six games. For the fourth straight season, Ruzicka was a member of the Slovakian National Team for an IIHF World Championship Tournament (World Junior Championships in 2004 and 2005 and World Under-18 Championships in 2002 and 2003).
During the 2003-04 season, Ruzicka registered 34 goals and 38 assists for 72 points and 63 penalty minutes in 62 regular season games for the Attack. His 72 points tied for the team lead and led all OHL rookies. He was named to the OHL All-Rookie Team and the OHL Second All-Star Team following the 2003-04 season. At the conclusion of Owen Sound's season, Ruzicka joined the Phantoms and was scoreless in two regular season games and scored a goal in three playoff games.
A native of Nitra, Czechoslovakia, Ruzicka was drafted by the Flyers in the third round (81st overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
