(November 4) - The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have recalled 5'11", 190-pound center Mark Cullen, 6'5", 245-pound defenseman Martin Grenier and 6'2", 220-pound defenseman Alexandre Picard from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to Interim General Manager Paul Holmgren. All three players will be available to play in tonight's Flyers-Washington Capitals game at the Wachovia Center (Comcast SportsNet and 610 WIP at 7:00 p.m.). Cullen has been assigned uniform number #14, Grenier has been assigned uniform number #32 and Picard has been assigned uniform number #29.
In addition, the Flyers announced that forward Triston Grant was reassigned to the Phantoms.
Cullen, 28, recorded two goals and five assists for seven points and 10 penalty minutes in nine games for the Phantoms this season.
A native of Moorhead, Minnesota, Cullen registered seven goals and nine assists for 16 points and two penalty minutes in 29 regular season games for the Chicago Blackhawks last season, his first season in the NHL. His +7 plus/minus rating was second on the Blackhawks. In 54 regular season games for the Blackhawks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Norfolk Admirals, during the 2005-06 season, he recorded 29 goals and 39 assists for 68 points and 48 penalty minutes. He was second on the Admirals in goals (29), assists (39) and points (69) and won the Fred T. Hunt Award for the 2005-06 season as the AHL player who best exemplified the qualities of sportsmanship, determination and dedication to hockey. Cullen was also a member of the U.S. National Team for the 2006 IIHF World Championships and recorded three points (1G,2A) in seven games.
He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on July 5, 2006.
Grenier, 26, was scoreless with 16 penalty minutes in nine games for the Phantoms this season. He posted 12 points (4G,8A) and 278 penalty minutes in 76 regular season games for the Hartford Wolf Pack (AHL) last season. His 278 penalty minutes led the Wolf Pack.
A native of Laval, Quebec, Grenier has appeared in 15 career NHL regular season games over three seasons with the Phoenix Coyotes (2001-02 and 2002-03) and the Vancouver Canucks (2003-04), recording one goal and 14 penalty minutes. He was signed as a free agent by the Flyers on July 13, 2006.
Picard, 21, was scoreless in four games with the Flyers this season. He has posted two points (1G,1A) in five games for the Phantoms this season. He was scoreless in six regular season games for the Flyers last season. He recorded seven goals and 26 assists for 33 points and 82 penalty minutes in 75 regular season games for the Phantoms during the 2005-06 season.
A native of Gatineau, Quebec, Picard was drafted by the Flyers in the third round (85th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft.
Grant was scoreless in three games for the Flyers this season.
