Flyers recall Akeson, Heeter from Phantoms

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers have recalled C Jason Akeson and G Cal Heeter from their American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Both players will be available for tomorrow’s 3 p.m. season finale against the Carolina Hurricanes at the Wells Fargo Center (CSN-HD, 97.5 FM).

Akeson, 23 (6/3/1990), receives his second career call-up to the Flyers and first this season. It’ll be the second consecutive year that he joins the Flyers for the last game of the year – he was recalled on April 22, 2013 and made his NHL debut in last season’s finale against Ottawa, scoring his first NHL goal on his first NHL shot.

In 70 games for the Phantoms this year, he’s recorded 24 goals and 40 assists for 64 points. The goals and points are a career high, and he’s one assist away from tying that career high. This season marks the third consecutive year that Akeson has led the Phantoms in scoring.

Heeter, 25 (11/2/1988), has appeared in 44 games for the Phantoms this year. He’s posted a record of 16-25-2 with a 2.65 GAA and a .912 save percentage. He was recalled by the Flyers on February 28, but did not appear in a game before being returned to Adirondack on March 3.

The Flyers will take on the New York Rangers in the first round of the 2014 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Tickets are on sale now for home game one and two of the series, or lock in extended access to the playoffs with a 2014-15 season ticket package.
