NEWARK, N.J. – Tyler Amorosa said he was focused on the big draft board here at Prudential Center every time three teams came up to pick – the Flyers, Minnesota and Dallas.
“I thought I would be picked, if I was lucky, in the sixth or seventh round,” Amorosa said. “To be chosen in the fifth round is unbelievable and humbling.”
Amorosa is 6-foot-2, 185 pounds and marked the third defenseman selected by the Flyers at pick No. 132 in the fifth round.
Amorosa, 18, is a left-hand shooting defenseman who played last season for Holderness Prep in New Hampshire.
The Montreal native will play next season for Sioux City in the USHL.
In round six, the Flyers took goaltender Merrick Madsen from Proctor Academy. The selection was No. 162 overall.
Madsen, 18, a California native, is 6-foot-4 and will play for Des Moines in the USHL next season before heading to Harvard University in 2014-15.
