Flyers Cup Finals This Weekend

The Philadelphia Flyers Fan Development Department announced the final match-ups for the 2006 Flyers Cup Scholastic Championships to be held this Friday, March 24 and Saturday, March 25.


The AA Final between Haverford High (reigning AA Champs) and Central Bucks South will hit the ice on Friday, March 24 at 8 p.m. at Hatfield Ice in Hatfield, PA. During Semifinal match-up on Monday, March 20, Haverford defeated Neshaminy 5-2. Haverford's Chris Campli scored three goals in the win. Also on March 20, Central Bucks South defeated Downingtown East 3-2 after recovering from a 2-0 deficit.

The A Final between Springfield (Delco) and Penncrest (reigning A Flyers Cup and Pennsylvania State Champs) will hit the ice on Saturday, March 25 at 12 p.m. at Ice Works in Aston, PA. During Semifinal match-up on Tuesday, March 21 Springfield defeated Garnet Valley in overtime 5-4. Also on March 21, Penncrest defeated Hershey 4-2 to advance to the finals. Flyers Ambassador of Hockey Bob "The Hound" Kelly will present awards at the conclusion of the final and Philadelphia Phantoms mascot Phlex will be on hand to interact with fans.

The AAA Final between Cardinal O'Hara and Germantown Academy, who lost in the AAA Final last year, will hit the ice on Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m. at Ice Works in Aston, PA. During Semifinal match-up on Friday, March 17, Cardinal O'Hara won 5-3 over Holy Ghost Prep. O'Hara rallied from a 2-0 deficit after the first period to win the game. Also on March 17, Germantown Academy defeated La Salle 3-1 to advance to the finals. Former Flyer Bernie Parent will drop the ceremonial first puck and Phantoms mascot Phlex will be on hand to interact with fans. This game will be broadcast live on CN8.

Tickets to each tier final game are just $5 and proceeds benefit high school hockey.

The winning team from each tier will advance to the Pennsylvania State Championships and face the winners of the Pittsburgh region's Penguins Cup. The State Championships are slated for Saturday, April 8, in Pittsburgh.
