The Philadelphia Flyers announced that they have assigned forward Steve Downie to the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.
Downie, 20, recorded a goal and 17 penalty minutes in four preseason games for the Flyers. He has been suspended by the NHL for 20 games
as a result of an incident during the Flyers-Senators preseason game in Ottawa on September 25.
Downie, the Flyers’ first round pick (29th overall) of the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, recorded 35 goals and 57 assists for 92 points and 124 penalty minutes in 45 regular season games for the Peterborough Petes and the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League last season. He was also scoreless in one regular season game for the Phantoms.
