The Philadelphia Flyers announced today they have reached a minor league affiliate agreement with the Mississippi Sea Wolves of the ECHL for the 2008-09 season, according to club General Manager Paul Holmgren.
"We are pleased to have the Mississippi Sea Wolves as our ECHL affiliate," said Holmgren in making the announcement. “The Sea Wolves have a long-standing success in the ECHL and we are excited to have our prospects develop in this environment."
The Sea Wolves replace the Wheeling Nailers, who had served as the Flyers’ ECHL affiliate for the 2007-08 season. The Flyers will have the opportunity to send players contracted to either the Flyers or their American Hockey League affiliate, the Philadelphia Phantoms, to Mississippi to play for the Sea Wolves.
