Flyers acquire Kris Newbury

The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired 5-11, 205-lb forward Kris Newbury from the New York Rangers in exchange for D Danny Syvret, according to general manager Paul Holmgren.

Newbury, 31 (2/19/1982), was acquired by the Rangers on March 3, 2010 and since then has split time between the Rangers and their American Hockey League affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack.  He has appeared in 24 games for New York over the past three seasons, recording two assists and 68 penalty minutes.  In 222 AHL games since joining the Rangers organization, Newbury has posted 66 goals and 139 assists for 205 points, along with 457 PIM.
In 72 career NHL games with the Rangers, Detroit, and Toronto, Newbury has four goals and five assists for nine points, along with 132 PIM.  He has appeared in 599 career AHL games, gathering 439 points on 142 goals and 297 assists to go along with 1,332 penalty minutes.  He was drafted by San Jose in the fifth round (139th overall) of the 2002 NHL Entry Draft.
Syvret, 28 (6/13/1985) recorded six goals and 34 assists for 40 points in 76 games last season for the Flyers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, in his fourth stint with the Flyers organization.  He has appeared in 483 AHL games in his career, scoring 46 goals and adding 206 assists for 252 points along with 236 PIM.   In 59 career NHL appearances with the Flyers, Anaheim and Edmonton, Syvret has posted three goals and four assists for seven points, including his first career NHL goal in the 2010 NHL Winter Classic vs. Boston.   He also appeared in 10 playoff games for the Flyers in 2011.
