FIVE THINGS: Predators vs. Flyers

This is the ninth straight season the Flyers have hosted a game on Black Friday… Last season they dropped an 0-3 decision to the Rangers… The Flyers have a 3-2-3 record, earning points in six of the past eight games on Black Friday… Five out of the eight Black Friday games have been decided by one goal… This is the fourth time out of the nine seasons that the Flyers will have hosted a Western Conference opponent, they are 2-0-1 in the previous three… The Flyers have had a game the day after Thanksgiving each season since 1997, going 8-4–1-3 record (one tie)… They have been on the road just twice (2001 & 2005) and hosted 14 of the previous 16 outings.
The Predators come in playing the last of a five-game, nine-day road trip in which they are 1-3-0, earning a win in their last outing, 3-2 over Buffalo… Nashville lost the first three games of the trip and were shut out in each of those contests… Nashville has played over half of their games this season against the Eastern Conference (11 of 21) going 6-3-2, including a 2-3-1 mark against the Metropolitan Divisions… Today is 23rd game of the season for the Flyers and 10th game against a Western Conference opponent, eight of which have come in the month of November… Overall the Flyers own a 2-4-3 record against the West and 2-2-0 mark against the Central Division… The Flyers won their last game at home, a 3-2 overtime win on Nov. 23 vs. Carolina, and are looking to earn two wins in-a-row on home ice for the first time since the first two games of the season (Oct. 12 & 14).
The Flyers have had four of their last six goals come on the power play, while their penalty kill has been perfect in their last 15 times shorthanded over the span of five games, including four straight perfect games… The Flyers have six of their seven wins this year when they have scored the first goal… They have also earned points in 10 of 11 games decided by one goal, going 5-1-5…  The Predators have the most goals by defensemen in the NHL this season (17) with the next closest team having 12 goals by defensemen (Minnesota)… Nashville is undefeated in regulation when leading after two periods, going 8-0-1, and have earned points in 12 of 13 games when scoring the first goal of the game, going 11-1-1… Nashville is a perfect 5-0-0 when Craig Smith scores a goal and 3-0-0 when Mike Fisher records a goal this season.
The Flyers captain leads the team in goals (8) and points (17)… Of his 17 points, nine have come on the power-play and 12 have come in the month of November, including five of his eight goals… He has four points (2g-2a) in his last two games… Giroux leads the NHL in face-offs won (323) and ranks second in faceoff percentage at 60.0… He has had four games this season in which he’s been 70 percent or better on draws… Against the Predators, Giroux has four goals and seven points in nine career games. Should he get the start, Pekka Rinne will play in his 400th career NHL game today… He has a lifetime record of 214-120-46 with 38 shutouts and a 2.35 GAA and .919 save percentage… He will become the fourth Finnish-born goaltender in NHL history to reach the 400-game plateau… He was the 258th overall pick in the eighth round by the Predators in the 2004 NHL Draft… This season, Rinne owns 10 of the Preds 12 victories, going 10-5-3 with two shutouts and 2.31 GAA and .910 save percentage in 18 appearances… He has allowed two goals or fewer in 10 of 18 appearances… Against the Flyers, Rinne is 3-1-1 with a 2.32 GAA and .929 save pct.
