The Flyers have earned points in three of their last five games, going 2-2-1… The Flyers are also trying to snap a four-game losing skid on home ice, going 0-3-1, with their last win at the Wells Fargo Center coming on Oct. 24 vs. NY Rangers… The Flyers are one of nine teams in the NHL to have two wins when trailing after the second period… The Flyers won a pair of one-goal games against the Kings last season and are 3-1-1 in their last five games against the Kings, have earned a point in the standings in 10 of their last 12 games against LA (8-2-2) and are 13-4-3 in their last 20 games against the Kings… The Flyers have not allowed a power play goal against the Kings in their last four meetings, stopping all 14 attempts with their last PPG allowed coming on Oct. 15, 2011.
After starting the season with three losses in a row, the Kings won the next seven games and come into tonight winners of three of their last four games to surge to the top of the Pacific Division lead with 22 points… Following their first three losses, the Kings have recorded a power-play goal 10 of their last 14 games, going 11 of 41… LA has the NHL’s fourth best power-play on the road, operating at 28.6 percent (4 of 14), and are tied for the NHL lead in penalty killing on the road at 92.3 percent (12 of 13)… Former Flyer Jeff Carter leads the team in scoring with 17 points (7g-10a) and has recorded at least a point in five of his last six games (3g-4a)… Carter’s linemate, Tyler Toffoli, currently has a four-game point streak (1g-4a) and has not gone two straight games without recording a point all year… The Kings are tied for the second fewest goals against in the third period with 11 through 17 games… They are also tied for fourth in the NHL with the most wins in one-goal games, going 6-2-0.
The team will honor former Flyer (and Los Angeles King) Simon Gagne on his retirement from the NHL tonight… Gagne was the Flyers 1st round pick in 1998 (22nd overall) and played parts of 11 of his 14 seasons with the Flyers… He recorded 264 goals with the Flyers (ninth all-time in team history) and 535 points (10th all-time in team history) in 691 games… He added another 32 goals and 45 points in 90 career Stanley Cup Playoff games with the Flyers and ranks seventh all-time in team history with six game-winning-goals - three of which are among the most famous in team history (2004: Game 6 vs. Tampa Bay; 2010: Game 4 & Game 7 vs. Boston)… Gagne won back-to-back Bobby Clarke Trophies as Team MVP in 2006 and 2007… He was traded by the Flyers to the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2011 where he played one season, recording 40 points (17g-23a) in 63 games and added 12 points (5g-7a) in the playoffs to help lead the Lightning to the Eastern Conference Finals… He played 45 games with the Los Angeles Kings from 2011-2013 recording 22 points (7g-15a) and four games in the 2012 Stanley Cup Final where he helped the Kings with the Stanley Cup Championship.
The 22-year-old rookie made his season debut on Saturday in Carolina and recorded his first NHL point by picking up the primary assist on the game-tying goal in the third period against the Hurricanes… In that game he played 17:21 which was nearly five minutes more than he played in his first two NHL games last season… Gostisbehere was recalled after recording points in five of his last six games in the AHL with the Phantoms where he had a goal and five assists in that stretch… He only has three NHL games under his belt, but this will be his second game against the Kings. You’ll be seeing a lot of Doughty, who leads the Kings and ranks fourth overall in the NHL in average time-on-ice at 26:33 per game, and ranks second in the NHL in average shifts per game at 33.1… He is third on the team, and leads the Kings defense in scoring with 11 points (2g-9a)… He has points in three of his last four games (1g-2a) and has not gone two straight games without recording a point since Oct. 9-18 when he went four straight without a point… Doughty leads all NHL players in shot attempts in close game situations (80), which is when the Kings are within a goal during the first two periods, or tied in the third… Against the Flyers, he has five points (2g-3a) in 10 career games.
