FIVE THINGS: Islanders vs. Flyers

The Flyers kick off a three-game homestand, two of which are against Metropolitan Division opponents… This is only the 13th game against a division opponent out of 40 games so far this season - the Flyers own a 6-4-2 record against the Metro… The last three meetings against a Metro opponent have all gone past regulation play, while seven of the 12 games have been decided in overtime or a shootout… The Islanders come into today with two straight losses to division opponents, marking the first time all season they have dropped two regulation games to Metro opponents all season, going 7-2-2… Jakub Voracek leads the Flyers in scoring against the Metro, recording 11 points (3g-8a) in 12 games, while Kyle Okposo leads the Isles against division opponents with eight points (3g-5a) in 11 games.

The Flyers look to make it five straight on home ice, coming in with a four-game winning streak, and have also earned points in five straight home games, going 4-0-1 with their last loss coming against tonight’s opponent, the New York Islanders, in a shootout on Dec. 8… The Islanders come into today having dropped two of their last three games, and in that three-game span have allowed 14 goals… Sean Couturier is riding a two-game goal-scoring streak and has now recorded a goal in three of his last four games, and five of his last nine games… Brayden Schenn has points in three straight games and will be looking for his first four-game point streak since Apr. 1-7 of last season… Goaltender Thomas Greiss has the last three victories for the Islanders, going 3-1-0 with a 3.70 GAA and .909 save percentage in his last four starts.

This is the third of five meetings against the Islanders this season, and second and final meeting at home… The Flyers are 0-1-1 so far and 0-0-1 at home - they are looking to avoid going winless against the Islanders on home ice during a season for the first time since the 2006-07 season when they went 0-4-0… The Islanders will be looking for their 100th all-time win against the Flyers today, owning a 99-125-26-5 record… Claude Giroux leads the Flyers with two goals and three points in two games against the Islanders this season and has the most points against the Islanders than any other team in his career with 40 points in 35 games… The Islanders own the NHL’s second best penalty kill at 85.8 percent, killing off 103 of 120 attempts this season.

Brayden Schenn has a three-game point streak where he has six points (2g-4a) and a plus-3 rating… Schenn also leads the team in scoring when playing at home, recording six of his nine goals and 13 points in 18 home games, while recording a plus-minus rating of +4… Over the last three seasons, Schenn leads all Flyers in game-winning goals (14)… Against the Islanders, Schenn has one assist in the season series and nine points (3g-6a) in 19 career games.

Nielsen comes into tonight with points in four of his last five games recording five points (2g-3a) in that stretch… He ranks third on the Islanders with 27 points (14g-13a) and his 14 goals has matched his total from all of last season… He leads the Islanders in the season series against the Flyers with three goals and nine shots in the two games thus far… Nielson is the NHL’s all-time leader in shootout goals since it’s inception in 2005-06 with 41 goals on 77 attempts (53.2 percent).
