FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Vancouver Canucks

T he Flyers return home where they have won three of their last four games and five of their last eight contests… The Flyers own a 7-5-3 record against teams from the Western Conference, including 3-1-1 when playing them on home ice… The Flyers own the NHL’s best power play at home at over 30 percent and have scored 22 of their 61 home goals on the man advantage, including five of their last nine home goals… Jakub Voracek continues to lead the NHL’s scoring race with 52 points, but is now tied for the lead in assists with Sidney Crosby at 35… Claude Giroux is tied for third in assists (34) and points (48) in the NHL… Flyers defenseman Nick Schultz has played more games against the Canucks than any other team in his career (71).



T he Canucks come into tonight playing the second of a five-game road trip… They are winless in their last three games, scoring just two goals in that span, but have not lost more than three games in regulation all season… Vancouver has scored 47 goals in the second period, fourth most in the NHL, while only scoring 25 goals in the first period, tying for the fourth worst in the NHL… Vancouver has a 7-1-0 mark against opponents from the Metropolitan Division… The Canucks are 10-2-3 in one-goal games… Vancouver owns the NHL’s 3rd best penalty-killing unit at 87 percent, killing off 120 of 138 opportunities… In his first year with the team, Canucks forward Radim Vrbata leads the team with 16 goals and ranks third in points (29) behind his line mates, the Sedin brothers (Henrik and Daniel).



T his is the first of two meetings against the Canucks - the Flyers split the season series last year with each team winning on each others home ice and both games were decided by one goal… Last year, Henrik Sedin led the Canucks with three assists in two games, while brother Daniel had a goal and an assist… Michael Raffl has two assists in two career games against Vancouver… The Flyers have dropped three of the last four meetings against the Canucks at home dating back to the 2005-06 season, but overall own a .664 winning percentage against Vancouver in Philadelphia at 38-19-1… The Flyers are playing the second game of back-to-backs, while the Canucks are playing the first of games on consecutive nights - the Flyers are 2—5-1 in the second, while Vancouver is 4-2-0 in the first .




Flyers captain Claude Giroux has recorded a point in each of the four games following a shutout loss, posting six points (2g-4a) in the four-game span… Despite going scoreless last night, Giroux has five points in his last five games and is tied for third in the NHL in assists (34) and tied for third with 48 points… Giroux has recorded at least a point in four straight and seven of his last eight home games, posting 10 points (1g-9a) in that stretch… Against Vancouver, Giroux averages over a point-per-game with two goals and six assists for eight points in six career games including three points in the two-game set last season.


Miller owns 20 of his team’s 23 victories on the year and has a 2.48 goals-against average and .912 save percentage in 30 appearances this year, his first with the Canucks… Miller has started in six of the eight games against Metropolitan Division opponents, going 5-1-0 with a 1.83 GAA and .927 save percentage… Miller is currently 5th among active goaltenders in wins (314), which is 25th all-time, and 3rd all time for wins among American-born goaltenders… He is tied for 7th in the NHL in wins (20) this season… Against the Flyers, Miller has appeared in more than 31 meetings, posting a 14-13-2 mark, 2.98 GAA and .904 save percentage while only shutting out the Flyers once in his career.
