FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Predators

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers

The Flyers make their first trip to a Western Conference team since Jan. 7 (at MIN), and don’t visit another team from the West until Mar. 16 (at CHI)… The Flyers have an overall record of 7-8-3 against the Western Conference, while the Predators have a 10-6-4 mark against the East… The Flyers come into tonight looking for their third straight win… They have had 10 of their 12 games to start the Calendar year decided by one goal… Nashville has won five of their last seven games and recently had their four-game win streak end in their last contest - a 1-0 loss to St. Louis, but have allowed just one goal in each of their last five games, posting a team 1.00 GAA and .962 save percentage in that span… The Preds haven’t had much luck on home ice lately, dropping two straight and three of their last four games in Music City.

The Flyers have recorded a goal on the power play in five consecutive games, going 8-for-22 at 36.3 percent, and have also scored 53.3 percent, 8-of-15, of their overall goals on the man-advantage in the last five games… The five-game stretch with at least one power-play goal is the longest of the season and longest since a seven-game stretch last year from Mar. 21-Apr. 7… The Predators penalty kill has been perfect in the last seven games, killing off all 21 attempts in that stretch, and have killed off 24 straight in an eight-game span… On the power-play, Nashville has gone 6-for-27 in their last nine games and have the fifth best man-advantage in the NHL since Dec. 1 at 22.1 percent.
Jakub Voracek has a four-game point streak, averaging two points-per game with three goals and eight points in that stretch… Voracek leads the team in assists (31) and is one point behind Giroux for the overall team lead in scoring with 39 points in 48 games… Brayden Schenn (3g-3a) and Wayne Simmonds (4g-2a) each have four-game point streaks, scoring six points in that span… The Predators lead the NHL in most goals by defensemen (36) and overall points by d-men (124)… Both Shea Weber (31) and Roman Josi (35) are in the Top 12 of scoring by NHL defensemen… Mike Fisher has recorded at least a point in five straight games against the Flyers, posting six points (3g-3a)
The 22-year-old rookie defenseman is riding a five-game point streak in which he has posted six assists and seven points… He has recorded at least a point in 18 of his 30 games, including five multi-point games that have all occurred in the last 16 contests… He leads the Flyers defense and is currently tied for fifth on the team in scoring with 23 points… Gostisbehere continues to lead all rookie defensemen goals (8), assists (15) and points (23)… In his first and only meeting of his career against the Predators, he recorded the game-winning-goal in overtime on the power-play. Since coming to the Predators from Columbus in a trade for defenseman Seth Jones on Jan. 6, Johansen has fit in quite nicely, averaging nearly a point per-game with three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 11 games… Combined with his totals from the Blue Jackets, Johansen leads the Predators with 27 assists and 39 points in 49 games… In his career against the Flyers, he has nine points (3g-6a) in 12 games… The fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Draft was teammates with Ryan Ellis and with Flyers forwards Sean Couturier and Brayden Schenn for Team Canada, winning a silver medal, in the 2011 World Junior Championships.
