FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs. Panthers

by Staff Writer / Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers return home to the Wells Fargo Center for their home opening game of 2015-16… They posted a 23-11-7 record at home last season to record their eighth straight winning season on home ice and 20th winning season at home in the last 21 years… They also boasted the NHL’s best power play at home, operating at 28.0 percent, going 37-for-132… The Flyers have dropped their last three home opening games, but have an overall record of 26-15-6 in home openers… They have played the Panthers three previous times in home opening games, winning their last two meetings:

1996-97: L, 3-1
1997-98: W, 3-1
2001-02: W, 5-2
Through the first two games, eight different Flyers have recorded at least a point - R.J. Umberger is the only Flyer and leads the team with two points (all assists)… Flyers defensemen have recorded a total of 20 shots on goal through the first two games with Mark Streit leading the way with seven… Jakub Voracek leads the team in shots on goal (9), followed by Scott Laughton (7) and Streit (7)… Michael Del Zotto leads the team in average time-on-ice at nearly 23 minutes (22:59) and shifts per-game (30.5)… Two of the Flyers three goals scored have come on the power play, which is operating at 28.6 percent (2-for-7).
The Flyers posted a 6-3-3 record against Atlantic Division opponents at home last season… Vincent Lecavalier has played more games against the Panthers than any other active NHL player, and is tied with Rod Brind’Amour for most games against Florida overall… Roberto Luongo stopped 38 of 39 shots in Saturday’s win over the Flyers - he is one win away from tying Grant Fuhr for ninth all-time in wins (403)… The Flyers currently have three players who have appeared in 200 consecutive games as a Flyer - Jake Voracek (228), Brayden Schenn (210) and Sean Couturier (200)… Panthers defenseman Brian Campbell has played 305 consecutive regular season games and 295 consecutive regular season games as a Panther.
Giroux recorded an assist in Saturday’s game to get on the scoresheet for the first time this season… Last year he finished the season by recording at least a point in six of his final seven home games while averaging nearly a point per-game at home with 40 points (12g-28a) in 41 games… This is Giroux’s seventh home-opener in his career - he has recorded four goals and seven points in six previous home openers, including a goal and an assist last year… Against the Panthers, Giroux has 16 points in 26 career games. The 43-year-old future hall of famer has been a Flyer-killer in recent outings - he recorded a pair of goals on three shots in the Panthers first game against the Flyers on Saturday night in Florida and now has five goals in his last two games against Philadelphia, recording a hat trick in his last meeting in 2014-15… He also has seven goals and 11 points in his last seven outings against the Flyers… Overall in his career, Jagr has posted 47 goals, 71 assists for 118 points in 94 career games against the Flyers.
