This is just the second game of the preseason for the Devils, while the Flyers play their fourth game of the preseason in a span of four days… Of the 33 total NHL preseason games played thus far, 21 of them have been decided by one goal, including two of the three Flyers games… Scott Laughton, Jason Akeson, Sam Morin, Zac Rinaldo and Michael Raffl are the only players tonight who will have played in a maximum of three of the four preseason games thus far.

Over the last eight preseasons, the Flyers own a record of 7-8-1, but own a 6-2-0 mark on home ice, winning four of the last five preseasons games at the Wells Fargo Center… During the regular season, the Flyers went 2-2-0 against the Devils with three of the four games decided by one goal, and 1-1-0 on home ice… Of the four games, a total of 12 combined goals were scored by the teams.

Steve Mason
and Rob Zepp will split time in the Flyers net tonight with Mason getting the start… Nicklas Grossmann will make his preseason debut tonight for the Flyers… Defenseman Mark Streit is tied (with four other players) for the NHL lead in points and assists during the preseason (1g-3a—4pts)… Brayden Schenn, Jakub Voracek and Matt Read each have a 100 shooting percentage, scoring on their first shot of the preseason… The Flyers and Devils AHL affiliate played a Rookie Game on Tuesday in which the Flyers won, 4-2… Taylor Leier scored twice with Shayne Gostisbehere and Petr Straka recording the other goals.

4. PLAYER TO WATCH - FLYERS: (RW: #34 - Andrew Gordon)
Gordon posted a goal and an assist in the last preseason game on home ice for the Flyers and had a team-high four shots on goal through 19:03 of ice time… He’ll be in the line-up tonight and most likely in the same position as last game — on the right wing of the top line with Jakub Voracek and Brayden Schenn… Last season with St. John’s of the AHL, Gordon recorded 23 goals and 34 assists for 57 points to finish second in regular season scoring on the IceCaps, and helped lead the team to the Calder Cup Finals.

5. PLAYER TO WATCH - DEVILS: (G: #35 - Cory Schneider)
Cory Schneider will make his first preseason start tonight… Schneider comes into the preseason as the clear number one goaltender in the Devils organization and will make his first start against the Flyers as a member of the Devils with Martin Brodeur getting all four starts against the Flyers last season… In 2013-14, Schneider posted a 16-15-12 mark with a 1.97 goals-against average and .921 save percentage to go along with three shutouts.
