  GAME NOTES  I Preview

Tonight will be the first game behind the bench for Craig Berube who was named head coach of the Flyers on Monday… Berube is the 18th head coach in Flyers history and FIFTH person to have played as a Flyer and become head coach… He spent the previous five seasons and parts of seven seasons as the club's assistant coach… He spent a total of 17 seasons playing in the NHL, recording 159 points, and over 3,000 penalty minutes - his 3,149 penalty minutes rank seventh all-time in NHL history.

The Flyers play the first of three meetings against the Panthers and only meeting on home ice against Florida… Last year, the Flyers went 1-1-1 against the Panthers, but over the last two seasons, have lost three straight games at home to Florida… Overall, the Flyers own a 44-26-7-3 record against the Panthers, and a close 17-16-6-3 record in Philadelphia…   Matt Read has six goals in six career games against the Panthers, while goaltender Steve Mason has a perfect 4-0-0 career mark against Florida with a 1.21 GAA and 9.57 save percentage… The reigning Calder Trophy winner as the NHL's best rookie, Jonathan Huberdeau has four points (2g-2a) in three career games against the Flyers.

The Flyers return home after a two-game road trip over the weekend, dropping both contests on back-to-back nights… The Flyers have never lost four consecutive games to start a season in their 45 seasons of play… The Panthers come into tonight's game with 73 penalty minutes in just two games so far this season (29th in NHL)… The Flyers have trailed after the first period in two of their three games thus far… Sean Couturier leads the Flyers in face-off percentage (56.1%, 23-for-41) of players who have taken more than 10 face-offs this season through the first three games… Couturier also went 57.7 percent (49-for-85) during five preseason games.

4. Player to watch FLYERS: Claude Giroux - (C) #28
Look for the Flyers captain to start producing… Giroux has yet to record a point in three straight games on the year - Giroux went three games without recording a point only once last season (Jan. 27-Feb. 1) and dating back to 2010-11, Giroux has not gone four straight games without a point since Nov. 24-Dec. 1, 2010… Against the Panthers, Giroux has 11 points (4g-7a) in 19 games.

5. Player to watch PANTHERS: Tim Thomas -  (G) #34
Thomas returns to the NHL after taking the 2012-13 season off for personal reasons… The two-time Vezina Trophy winner has not once lost a game at Philadelphia, posting a perfect 8-0-0 record with a 1.86 goals against average and .947 save percentage in his NHL career… He has allowed just 15 goals over those eight games… His last visit to Philadelphia was Mar. 17, 2012 with Boston, a 3-2 shootout win… Overall, Thomas has a 13-3-0-2 record against the Flyers, with a 2.18 GAA.

"We’re going to put some different systems in place. I have 100 percent belief in every player we’ve got on this team, and we’ll be successful."
- Flyers head coach Craig Berube
