FIVE THINGS: Flyers vs Coyotes

Jakub Voracek enters the unofficial second half of the season as the NHL’s leading scorer, and returned from break as the leading scorer in the All-Star Game with six points (3g-3a), which tied Mario Lemieux’s NHL record… Voracek’s 56 points leads the NHL by four points over Tyler Seguin, and 39 assists by three over Sidney Crosby… Claude Giroux is second on the Flyers and tied for third in the NHL with 51 points, but is tied for the NHL lead in power-play points (24)… The Coyotes scoring lead is shared by center Antoine Vermette and defenseman Keith Yandle, who each have 30 points… Yandle leads the team with 26 assists and on the power-play with 19 points… Oliver Ekman-Larsson leads the team with eight goals on the power play, and is tied with the most goals (12) by an NHL defenseman this season - he represented the Coyotes at the All-Star Game.

The Flyers have won four of their last six home games, including their last outing before the break, a 3-2 win in overtime against Pittsburgh… The Flyers have 12 of their 19 victories at home (12-7-3)… Arizona comes in having lost six-straight games, scoring more than two goals in just one of those contests and being outscored 24-9… Zac Rinaldo has been suspended eight games by the NHL for his hit on Penguins defenseman Kris Letang… The Flyers have recalled Ryan White from the Phantoms - he could make his Flyers and season debut tonight… The Coyotes have been out-shot in 29 of their 46 games so far this season, but have 10 of their 16 wins this season when they have been out-shot by their opponent (10-17-2)… The Flyers have allowed a goal in the first period in seven of their last eight games, and have scored a total of five goals in the third period in their last three games.

The Flyers will get to see the #1 overall pick in last year’s draft, defenseman Aaron Ekblad - he has two assists and ranks fourth on the team in average time on ice at nearly 22 minutes per-game (21:56)… Steve Mason has an overall record of 6-1-0 with a 1.55 GAA and .950 save percentage in seven career appearances against the Panthers… Vincent Lecavalier will be in the line-up tonight after missing the previous seven games… Matt Read has six goals and seven points in nine games against the Panthers, including his first career hat trick… Claude Giroux scored his first goal in the NHL against the Panthers at Florida on Jan. 27, 2009… Panthers forward Brandon Pirri has scored a goal in each of this last three games and his three goals also lead the Panthers this year… Former Flyer Scottie Upshall will be playing in his 499th game in the NHL tonight… The Panthers have 10 players on their roster who are under the age of 25, including two players under 20-years-old (Barkov & Ekblad).


Streit is tied for fourth among all NHL defensemen with 34 points and is fourth overall among d-men with 27 assists so far… Since joining the Flyers in 2013, Streit has not missed one game, appearing in 130 consecutive games… He currently has a three-game point streak with two goals and an assist in that stretch, and since Dec. 3 has recorded at least a point in 18 of 24 games, posting 18 assists and 21 points… Against the Coyotes, Streit has four points (1g-3a) in eight career games, including an assist in their first meeting this season on Dec. 29.

Vermette recorded two goals on three shots and added another assist for a three-point night in the first meeting with the Flyers, while recording a +3… In his career against the Flyers, Vermette has eight goals and 11 points in 24 games… Heading into the All-Star break, he posted four assists and five points in his last seven games… Vermette will play in his 799th game tonight, having recorded 192 goals and 425 points in the previous 798 games, and ranks second in the NHL’s iron-man streak, having played in 439 consecutive games.
