FIVE THINGS: Flyers at Toronto Maple Leafs

T he Flyers begin their longest road trip of the 2014-15 season at 16 days and eight games, but briefly return home for three days for the holidays… In total, they will travel 7,297 miles on this road trip - 2,651 miles for the first portion and then another 4,646 miles in the second portion… the Flyers have a road record of 3-9-3 and have had each of their last four road games decided by one goal… Sean Couturier has 10 of his 15 points while playing on the road this season with four goals and six assists… Following tonight’s game, the Maple Leafs will also go on their longest road trip of the season with seven games in 14 days… Toronto has 14 of their 19 victories on home ice this year, going 14-7-0 .

B oth teams look to get back into the win column tonight - The Flyers come in after suffering a 2-1, six-round shootout loss to the Panthers, while the Maple Leafs dropped their last game, 4-1 to Carolina… The Flyers have earned a point in the standings in six of their last eight games, going 3-2-3, while Toronto has a record of 10-2-1 in their last 13 games… The Flyers had their streak of eight-straight games with a power-play goal broken, having had only 1:03 of power-play time in their last outing, going 0-for-1… They own the fifth-best power-play in the NHL at 24% (25-for-104) and have scored at least one PPG in 14 of the last 18 games dating back to Nov. 8… The Maple Leafs lead the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.38 goals-per-game… They have scored the most second-period goals of any team (43)… They are one of two teams to have scored over 100 goals so far this season (Tampa Bay)… They are 14-0-0 and one of two teams to own a perfect record when scoring the first goal of the game (Montreal) .

F lyers G Steve Mason is out of tonight’s game with an upper-body injury suffered in practice yesterday… 33-year-old Rob Zepp has been recalled from the Phantoms - Zepp has never played an NHL regular season game, but went 1-1-0 with a 2.02 GAA and .947 sv. pct in three preseason appearances… Both Toronto goaltenders have a career goals-against-average of over 3.00 against the Flyers (Bernier: 3.92, Reimer: 3.23)… Although this is the first meeting of the season with the Leafs, the two teams faced each other in preseason, with Toronto winning both contests… Last season, the Flyers went 1-1-1 in the three game series, suffering an overtime loss in their only meeting in Toronto… Jakub Voracek is tied for second in the NHL’s scoring race with 38 points (12g-26a), one point behind Tyler Seguin (DAL) - Voracek has goals in three of his last four games and has not gone two straight games without recording a point yet this season .

Since signing with the Flyers in the summer of 2013, Streit has not missed a game in a Flyer uniform, playing in all 113 games, and currently has an iron-man streak of 329 consecutive games played dating back to the 2008-09 season with the NY Islanders… He leads the Flyers defense with 19 points (5g-12a), which also ranks 13th among all NHL defensemen in scoring… He comes into tonight’s game having recorded an assist in five of his last seven games with six helpers in that span… Streit also leads the team in average time-on-ice this season at nearly 23 minutes per-game (22:47), including power-play TOI at nearly four minutes per-game (3:53)… Against the Maple Leafs, Streit has 17 points (3g-14a) in 35 games.

Kessel holds the NHL's fifth longest active games played streak having skated in 396 consecutive games… He leads the Maple Leafs in points (34), goals (17) and assists (17), as well as points on the power play (13)… His 17 goals are fifth among all NHL players and 34 points are ninth overall… He has recorded at least a point in five of his last six and eight of his last 10 games, posting six goals and 11 points in that 10-game span… The former fifth overall pick (2006) has scored more goals than any other American-born skater since the 2008-09 season (209)… Against the Flyers however, Kessel hasn’t had much success, posting just four goals and 12 points in 28 career games… Last season he had one goal in three games.
