Tonight is the fifth of seven preseason games for the Flyers who are coming off of two straight wins on home ice with their only loss coming on the road (2-3 vs. NYI at Brooklyn)… The Flyers have scored 17 goals during the preseason, the most of any team in the Metropolitan Division and tied for the most in the entire NHL… They have also posted three straight five-goal games counting one of the opening split-squad games… 12 different Flyers have accounted for 17 of their goals, while 27 different Flyers have recorded at least a point in the preseason.
The Flyers power play leads all teams in the preseason at 43.8 percent and have scored the most goals (7), going 7-for-16… The Flyers are 75% on the power play in the first period during the preseason, going 3-for-4… The Rangers rank 10th in the preseason on the man advantage (26.3 percent) going 5-for-19… The Rangers have also given up the most power-play goals against this preseason (7) and rank 29th in the NHL on the PK.
This is only the third preseason meeting at Madison Square Garden for the Flyers since 2007, and fourth meeting between the two teams in New York since the 2002 preseason, a span of 13 years… Defenseman Evgeny Medvedev leads the Flyers in scoring in the preseason with four points (1g-3a)… Kevin Klein leads the Rangers defense, and is tied for second on the team, in scoring with four points - all of which are assists… He is also tied for the team lead with a plus-minus rating of +4.
Laughton has appeared in two of the three possible preseason games for the Flyers, recording two assists - an assist in each game he has played, but he has not registered a shot on goal in either of those contests… Of Laughton’s 36 NHL games, four of those have been against the Rangers, going scoreless in each game, while in two preseason games against the Rangers, Laughton has one assist. Stepan leads the Rangers with five points (2g-3a) in just two games during the preseason and has a +3 rating… Stepan didn’t play in the first meeting this preseason against the Flyers, but in last year’s season series he recorded five points, all assists, in four games against the Flyers… He is one of five Rangers in franchise history who have re- corded 40+ points in each of their first five NHL seasons.
